There are many types of liposuction procedures. It can be very confusing for you, as a patient, to even attempt to figure out the various types of liposuction offered. Unfortunately, it usually is much easier to assume the expertise of the physician and the adequacy of procedure they want to offer you.
If you are like most patients, you will find a medical office that you are comfortable with, a staff that is friendly and a price point that is within your means. This is a reasonable approach, the standard approach, but also the wrong approach!
You must do your research prior to presenting to the doctor’s office. Without this basic foundation of understanding, you will not be able to ask the proper questions or understand the answers. Once you have developed a basic understanding of liposuction, arm yourself with a set of specific questions prior to your office consultation. Use your question set to survey and compare the different physicians you visit, only then can you make a well-informed decision.
A sample set of questions I would recommend include:
- What type of liposuction procedure(s) do you do and why?
- If you use a Laser, which laser do you use and why?
- Do you perform your procedure in an office or in an operating room at a hospital or surgery center?
- Do you have any patient references that I can call and talk to?
- What are the costs for the procedure?
And I recommend that you ask them in that order.
The answer to each question will provide you with a good foundation for why you are asking the next question as well as better understand the doctor’s response.
Your desire to know the cost of the procedure is premature.
There is no point in asking how much a doctor charges for a procedure until you know what type of procedure they do. I know you’re dying to know the cost, but get more information before you go there. The only way you can compare one doctor costs to another is to ask these questions in this sequence. Like anything in life, we usually fare better in a given situation when we are prepared.
Knowledge and understanding are the keys to success in everything.
